At the end of 2016, we came across the crayon recycling organization “The Crayon Initiative”. This organization started by Bryan Ware collects unwanted crayons, melts them down and molds them into new crayons which are donated to Children’s Hospitals across the USA.
ECTKD reached out to our local schools, day cares, library, and a couple of restaurants to help provide us with our collection efforts.
Bins and buckets were set up at the school and many students and parents helped sort them apart by colors.
In June 2018, we arranged for our first shipment of crayons, 1,065 pounds, to go to The Crayon Initiative in Danville CA.
Our participation was growing strong but we have had to start over again coming out of Covid. Numbers are improving and we hope to have a new shipment soon again.
